There's a good Robert Downey, Jr. article on Iron Man at Wizard. Here is a little snippet where he mentions Jon... “Jon has been very flexible and very fun because we’re very similar. I mean, I don’t know how this comes across, but it’s really Jon and I who are creating Tony and through that, half of the lines are his and half of the ideas are mine and we’ve got all these great people at the top of their fields who are simultaneously exasperated with the fact that we’re betting on an idea. I come in every day and I say, ‘I’ve seen this in a movie before, no offense. But if we do this, I haven’t seen that.’ Some of them are so far out they go, ‘Will you just go and put on your chest piece and earn a living like everyone else?’” The rest of the article can be read, HERE. Thanks, Adrian! Also, check back here soon because a little birdie says there may be confirmation on a new acting project for Jon this week. =) 11.29.07... The new issue of People has a Jon mention. Check out some clips from the Comic-Con panel featuring Jon. They are on the Marvel site, HERE. Thanks to Dylan from the Iron Man myspace group for the heads-up on those. 08.01.07... First, I need to address those that have emailed to ask if there are Special Features on the Dinner For Five DVD's that Amazon now has for sale. Jon said there aren't. There you have it. It was a great show though, very funny and insightful - definitely worth owning. Buy it HERE. Secondly, I was going to upload the Comic-Con trailer here on jon-favreau.net but have decided against it. Paramount would only have me remove it quickly anyhow. They won't even let those that made the movie post it so they definitely won't allow me to keep it up! Just know that it is Paramount's decision and not Jon's. There has definitely been a positive response from those that have seen it though, so that is good news for the movie. Also, I have been busy finally uploading some recent pictures. Special thanks to Advanced Dark for sharing his photos from Comic-Con. They are in the new Comic-Con folder HERE. I also added photos from the Who's Your Caddy premiere last week HERE. Rotten Tomatoes has an article that gives a very good scene-by-scene account of the trailer. It's right on and you can get a pretty good idea of what was seen in the trailer. Read the article HERE. 07.27.07... Lots of news today. Gotta love Comic-Con! Thanks to Advanced Dark for letting us know that Jon actually showed up early to Comic-Con to sit with the Paramount panel. (Paramount is distributing Iron Man for Marvel.) I have added photos from the Iron Man wrap party in the Gallery. View those HERE. There is also one photo from the set, I have added it HERE. Special thanks to Sean for use of his photos! 07.09.07... On July 6, Jon posted a bulletin in his Iron Man group. He will be at ComiCon in San Diego this year to promote Iron Man. If anyone goes, please share pics! "Now that the movie is finally wrapped, I can spend a little more time filling you all in. I have been reading as many of your posts as I can and here are responses to your most popular questions: First of all, as you probably already know, there is not a teaser trailer on the front of Transformers as many of you had hoped and speculated. We are, however, planning to reveal something very cool very soon. This month, in fact. In San Diego. We've secured a prime slot Saturday afternoon in the big room at SDCC. We will split an hour with Marvel and Hulk and plan to cut something together to reward the fans for their interest, support and patience. In addition to our Saturday afternoon presentation, we will be doing a signing and poster giveaway at the Marvel booth on Saturday. Paramount is also doing a rundown of its slate on Thursday which I will do my best to attend as well. Second of all, you had questions about Iron Monger/Mandarin/Obadiah Stane. My response is read the books. We took certain liberties to keep things a fresh and unexpected but we are essentially using the books to inspire our story. Iron Man fans should have no problem piecing together what's what. As far as what villians appear in this movie's storyline, I should reiterate that in the year spent developing our story we decided to treat Iron Man as a first chapter. We cover the origin story and the rise of the hero. It stands alone as a movie, but definitely leaves room for more to be told. Sequels often feel like the story was slapped together in a scramble to exploit a successful franchise. I prefer when stories are mapped out in advance. They feel less repetitive and arbitrary. Additional Iron Man movies are by no means guaranteed but, if we are lucky enough to do more, we will be ready to do them well. Third. Cameos. I've read that Sam Jackson and Hilary Swank are Shield agents and that I myself play a Vegas security guard. There is no truth to any of these rumors. (Well, maybe one is true.)" 06.26.07... Jon has updated his Iron Man group with a statement declaring that principal photography on Iron Man is complete. Congrats to cast, crew and of course, director! "Principal photography ended with a huge bang as we filmed the final scenes of Iron Man in Caesar's Palace. As many of you already know, gambling is a casino's top priority. A production can not interfere with their cash cow. As a result, movies must shoot during the dead hours, no matter if it's Swingers or Rain Man. We were given a window of midnight to one the next afternoon to do all of our work. Part of our strategy to prepare for these ungodly hours was to stay up as late as possible the night before and sleep as late as possible. I did half the plan. The wrong half. I stayed out until 7AM and then woke up four hours later. After motoring through the delerium of a sleepless shooting marathon, I am proud to report that we have handily completed our movie on time and on budget. What a great way to end. I would also like to thank Ceasars for their hospitality, generosity, and Swank accomodations." 06.23.07... Iron Man comes in at #11 in Entertainment Weekly's EW 100 - 100 stars and movies they are obsessed with currently. Read the Iron Man segment with the cast picture HERE. 06.04.07... Jon will be attending Spike TV's first "Guy's Choice" award show on June 9th. Jon will join Vince Vaughn as they accept the first-ever "Guy Movie Hall of Fame Award" for their classic "Swingers". The show will be televised on June 13th at 9pm CST. Read more HERE. Thanks to Rovs for the heads-up. And sorry for the delay in posting this. Jon posted another update bulletin on May 24th. "I'm exhausted. I could never have imagined how overwhelming of an experience a movie like this is. I could not be happier with the way the movie is turning out or the reactions we are getting to both the official and unofficial images that are floating out there in cyberspace. I have been relatively quiet for two main reasons. First, I feel like the General of a huge military campaign. I have no life other than Ironman. Between the script, sets, effects, shooting and editing, I am completely monopolized. The second reason is, you IM fans are like criminal profilers. You take a few official statements and images, a couple of off the cuff remarks from press junkets and red carpets, and some deftly gathered surveillence footage and are able to take some very uncanny stabs at what the movie will be. The movie is a year away. If I don't keep a few tricks up my sleeve, I can't knock you on your ass in 2008. At the rate you're going, you'll have everything figured out by then. I don't mean to be evasive, but it's my job. I've got to lay low. (At least until Comicon.)" 05.01.07... Jon updated the Iron Man Group about the status of production and threw in some answers to questions that have been bandied around the group. ...Let me confirm a few things: The movie will contain both the gray suit and the gold and red. The light you see in the photo on Robert's chest in the USA Today article is the chest piece glowing through his shirt. He is in captivity and forging the mask of the Mark 1. Both suits have been built practically by Winston Studios and are busily at work as we speak. We are exploring ideas for teaser trailers, though no date has been decided. We are planning to attend San Diego Comicon. Bridges is bald and plays Stane. The movie is on schedule and could not be going better. A photo of Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark with the "chest piece" Jon is referring to can be found HERE. Also, a small article on Iron Man is out, read it at Empire. 03.06.07... Jon updated his Iron Man group with a bulletin yesterday. Everything is sounding good. Read it HERE. Jon participated in the WPT Celebrity Challenge on March 3. HERE is a photo. 03.02.07... Finally, our gallery is up and running and now you can see some of Christine's pics from the Q&A at the Aero with Jon and Peter B HERE. Thanks Christine! 02.13.07... Join Jon Favreau and producer Peter Billingsley at the Aero in Santa Monica on Saturday, 2.17 for a special screening of Swingers & Made. Jon and Peter will hold a Q&A in between the films. Purchase tickets in advance through the Aero or American Cinematheque. Also, in more Iron Man news....they are aiming for a trilogy! Excellent news, and this comes from Quint's(AICN) visit to the Iron Man offices. Read his lengthy report HERE. 02.08.07... Jeff Bridges joins the cast of Iron Man! Marvel announced the addition to an already superb cast but remained mum on what character Bridges will play. Read the full article HERE. Iron Man, which is being directed by Jon, will start filming March 12. Also, the trailer for Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show documentary is online at the new budtv site. You must be registered at budtv.com to view it and must be 21 to register. The Comedy Show was hosted by Vince and featured comedians Ahmed Ahmed, Sebastian Maniscalco, John Caparulo and Bret Ernst onstage. Jon was a special guest at several shows and is featured briefly in the trailer. 01.29.07... The good news is Jon announced that Fergus and Ostby are doing a rewrite on Iron Man right now. The two are currently nominated for Oscars for the screenplay to Children of Men. The bad news is Paramount dropped the ball on John Carter of Mars. Pixar has aquired the rights now so who knows where it will go from here but Jon is no longer attached to the project. 01.25.07... Jon announced that Gwyneth Paltrow will be joining the cast of Iron Man, and that filming will begin in seven weeks. Gwyneth will play the role of Tony Stark's assistant, Pepper Potts. With Robert Downey, Jr., Terrence Howard and now Gwyneth, the casting is shaping up quite nicely. Hopefully that will mean much success on this one for Jon. =) 01.06.07... Finally got a review from the New Year's Wild West Comedy Show. Thanks to Rovostrov for sharing her account with us! =) "The show was the same format, with Peter Billingsley., Jon Favreau and Justin Long as the special guests. The lineup was Ahmed, Sebastian, Brett and John. Vince and Peter did the steroids skit, with Peter telling a story about the producer and how Vince got the part I hadn't heard before. Next sketch was Vince and Justin doing the dodgeball sketch, though from what Vince said it seemed Jon was supposed to go out first as he said they couldn't find the person who was supposed to be there (I got a little worried then since I figured it was Jon he was talking about). Then Vince introduced Jon. There was some back and forth between the two, with Jon also picking at Justin's body of work (he did like Galaxy Quest however). All in good fun. Jon and Justin did a scene from Swingers with Justin as Trent (impersonating Vince), with Vince at the side laughing it up. Jon and Vince then did a Dinner for Five sketch with Justin as their server which was pure Vince & Jon quips and barbs. Loved it! After Cap's set, Vince came out with the Mancation Dancers (Jon & Justin are members now!) and did the Mama Mia dance tribute. With a few minutes left before midnight, Vince & Jon led the Sweet Caroline sing-along which segued into the countdown and Auld Lang Syne with balloons everywhere. Vince and the troupe closed the show with well wishes and it was over. The comics all had new material, with Sebastian being the most notable. It was a great show and definitely worth the trip. I hope it translates well to the screen." In case I failed to mention it before there will be a theatrical and eventual DVD release of the Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show documentary. Jon was special guest at several shows so I believe he will be in some of the included material. 01.05.07... Catch a rerun of In Case of Emergency tonight on ABC. The series is executive-produced by Jon and he also directed the pilot which airs again tonight. ABC 8:30 CST/9:30EST. 12.31.06... If you are in Vegas tonight you can catch Jon at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino as he joins Vince Vaughn to ring in the new year with Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show. Vince will be hosting the show again as comedians Sebastian Maniscalco, Ahmed Ahmed, Bret Ernst and John Caparulo perform. Special guests will be Jon Favreau, Justin Long and Peter Billingsley. If anyone goes and gets any photos of Jon's sketches or of him with the guys, please do send them my way to share with everyone. 12.21.06... Jon announced today that the official Iron Man site has its title page up. The rest of the site will be added as time goes on. Meanwhile you can check it out HERE. 10.19.06... Happy 40th Birthday, Jon! This is the note I left on his Myspace in honour of his birth date... ![]() 10.17.06... The Break-Up DVD hits stores today. If you missed seeing the Vince Vaughn-Jennifer Aniston flick at the theater - check it out on DVD. Jon hilariously portrays Vince's best friend, who is all about dishing out advice. He stole his scenes, finally playing the funny man to Vince's straight one. Definitely worth checking out for all Favreau fans. 09.29.06... ...Robert Downey Jr.! Jon confirmed on his Myspace that Robert Downey Jr. will play Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, stating, "It is true. Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark. I am about as excited as I can be. I saw what he can do and he is extremely enthusiastic about playing Stark. I can say with absolute certainty that there is no better choice. The humor and emotional dimension he brings truly raises the bar on this project. Get ready." Congrats on landing an exceptional actor, Jon! 09.04.06... I usually stay away from Jon's personal life here at jon-favreau.net but I did want to take a moment to congratulate Jon and Joya on the latest addition to their family. Much joy and health your way! =) |
